That was the year that was

Well, it's been a funny old year, one way or another, but then aren't they all?

My years do seem to have a certain rhythm to them - Swash at the start of the year, Tortuga in the summer and an Otway concert at some point as well. New experiences and achievements this year included writing a novel in a month and passing level 2 Sai in Kobudo.

Bookwise, I particularly enjoyed Engleby by Sebastian Faulkes, The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak and The Tent, The Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy. My film of the year (even though strictly speaking it came out in 2007) was 'No Country for Old Men' beating the over long and self indulgent 'Dark Knight' and the stylish but silly 'Quantum of Solace'. The game of the year was undoubtedly GTA IV although I spent a lot of time playing Ikariam as well.

The biggest change of the year was switching jobs after a bit of uncertainty in September. I am grateful to have a secure job that I enjoy, even if my pension fund is looking a bit worse for wear these days.

Still, onwards and upwards to 2009!
