Walking backwards to Christmas

Well, it’s more of a reverse order catch up, but it will do for a title for now.

I’m currently in the Leeds office and wondering why the radiators are all on when it is so sunny outside. I had a brisk walk into town listening to podcasts from Speechification (about the Thames Lifeboat Service and the making of the classic jazz track ‘So What’), and very pleasant it was too. Before lunch, I had an interview for another job here which sounds promising – a bit less of a pure coding role than the job I went for the other week, and more support, testing and documentation which should suit me. I think it was pretty positive, but it’s got to go to the relevant director to be approved and to see if they want to interview anybody else for it yet.

Last night was my first level two kobudo grading, for sai which I seem to have been learning for ages. Lots of techniques, strikes and blocks against bo and bokken to demonstrate, and a long kata as well. It went pretty well, although my combination blocks and strikes in four step movements were a bit wooden, and I passed with credit so I now get to wear a blue and white belt – hurrah!

Saturday we were all in Leeds, although for shopping purposes rather than work. It was very busy, and not really a great deal of fun to be honest, although we did manage to find Jamie some new trainers and the spicy chilli noodles that I had for lunch from the Wokon noodle bar were excellent. On the games front, I beat a few more levels of Geometry Wars Galaxies on the DS – I’m really enjoying the variety in this game, which each level presenting a different challenge in layout, enemies and score targets, requiring different techniques and tactical use of the different drones available.

Friday night featured some unwelcome hassle that we all could well have done without, but hopefully that will all blow over as these things tend to do, and probably the less said about it the better.
