Floods, shoes and Marvel Superheroes

We currently have a lake at the end of our garden.

There have been perennial problems with drainage off the field that our garden backs onto, not to mention the leaking sewer main that took the council six months of nagging to sort out. The main drainage culvert has got blocked somehow, and in the heavy rain water was bubbling back out of it leaving a respectable sized flood along the back of three gardens. Fortunately, it didn't quite make it over the wall into the paved area at the bottom end of our grassed area but it was a near thing. Hopefully a chappie should be along to unblock it before it rains again ...

Yesterday saw me going to Meadowhell and actually spending more money than Jan, which is practically unheard of in these parts. My big purchases tend to be via the internet and involve much umming and ahing while I decide whether I am going to click the buy button. The recent Topfield purchase took me 18 months of careful consideration before I actually bought the thing! So, I actually bought another pair of DMs to replace my current pair that have given sterling service for six years but are now starting to look a little tired. They are still perfectly fine for wearing but they are not quite smart enough for work. The new pair cost 55 squids which still sounds a lot, but it's not all that bad if you take the expected lifespan into account.

The other purchase was Marvel Superheroes : Ultimate Alliance for the Wii. I know I said I wasn't going to buy any new games for a while, but I couldn't resist it in the half price deal of the week offer. We've only played the first mission so far, and it's very similar to the X Men : Legends game that I played last year but with the added bonus of wii gesture controls for the super powers. It's very satisfying to lob Captain America's shield by flicking the wiimote in a frisbee throwing motion or spin webs with the classic Spiderman move.

I've always wanted a pair of Doc Martens. Sounds like some good shopping.

Oooh...where was selling M:UA for half price?

My wife loved the X-men games and I've been meaning to get this for her. Are the gesture based controls any good?

It's in Game, and I assume that the half price offer is for this week. The gesture controls are pretty good, but some of them are a little tricky to pull off accurately in the heat of battle.
