Hunter

A modest improvement over yesterday, both weather wise and health wise, and another reasonably productive day too. I finished work just after five and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was still light enough to go out for a walk in the woods without needing a torch. Lighter evenings are definitely on the way and it feels as if the year has turned the first corner on the way towards the spring at long last.

This story in the news irritated me yesterday. In a nutshell, Cherie Booth QC, was handing down a sentence in the case of a man who broke another man's jaw in a particularly nasty assault. She suspended his two year jail term on the grounds that he was religious and, to quote her words "You are a religious man and you know this is not acceptable behaviour." Surely this should attract a harsher sentence, if he was acting against the supposed moral constraints of his beliefs? The religious delight in telling the rest of us that belief in their god is a pre-requisite for morality, but it seems that they are happy to act in immoral ways with the 'get out of jail free' card of forgiveness for their sins whenever they like.

In more positive news, I managed a quick go on the AvP demo last night and was suitably impressed. There are three different control schemes to get the hang of, one for each race, and being dumped into the middle of a frantic death match is not conducive to learning them. It took me half of one match to learn how to do the grabby-instant-death-attack which is the Predator's speciality move, but I think it will be worth persevering with. The animations are well done, particularly when the aliens come running at you at speed, scuttling along the walls and ceiling before you can draw a bead on them.
