Shiny things

Hurrah for new things!

Firstly, the Hardy Heron release of Ubuntu was released yesterday, so I did what I wouldn't do with any other operating system and set the update going straight away. The servers were a bit slow, naturally, so it took a couple of hours to download but after that the upgrade proceeded smoothly with no intervention needed. First impressions are very favourable, lots of nice tweaks and things tidied up, but it doesn't look radically different. The beta of Firefox 3 included with this release also seems fine, although some of the add ins don't work with it yet.

Secondly, the postie delivered a reassuringly weighty package containing Wii Fit. It's excellent, even though after measuring my BMI and fitness age it is probably more accurate to call it Wii Fat in my case. I've done my first workout, jogged around the island and unlocked a couple of games. The slalom and ski jump were excellent fun, and it looks like Wii Ski will have to be purchased when it comes out in this country.

After 28 minutes of exercise I think that I have earned a cherry beer ... :-)
