it's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad world

A 33 year old man who fire bombed a shop in London killing two people has been ordered to be held indefinitely in a secure hospital. The prosecutor said "in his deluded state he was putting into action his belief that those of other religions should be killed." Does that mean that anyone who takes a religious edict seriously (for example anyone calling for Sir Salman Rushdie to be murdered) is similarly mentally ill and should also be carted off to the nearest secure unit?

In other news, a catholic school in Australia refused to admit a five year old boy because his surname happened to be be 'Hell'. They initially offered him a place under his mother's maiden name, but took exception when they found out the boy's father's name. Apparently 'Hell' is an Austrian name meaning 'Bright'. Where does this leave the aptly named Cardinal Sin?
