On a school night

4  pints of beer – £10.00

1 advance ticket for the Caper Club – £5.00

Richard Herrings doing standup comedy – priceless.

Viewers are warned that the following post may contain strong language.

Well, bloody bollocking fuckery doo dahs. That was excellent with a capital X.

A blustery Wednesday night in the middle of December, and we were off down town for fun and  frolics. After a bus and tram journey, we rendevoused with Andrew and Lizzie, closely followed by Jan’s art school pals Carissa and Lucy, in the Takapuna bar on West Street. We took advantage of the cheap beer and claimed our seats upstairs in the Caper Club.

The usual run through with the host Anthony J Brown (top notch), one good stand up, one promising and one who was trying a little too hard, and then the king of comedy himself, Mr Richard Herrings.

Well, he went for it tonight. To say he was pushing the envelope slightly is like saying that Postman Pat delivers the odd letter. Can I just say, Blackberry whores, stigmata sex and the benefits of being Maxine Carr’s new boyfriend were amongst the subjects covered. Ground breaking, edgy and pointed, and even the drunk heckling ginger women didn’t manage to spoil the show.

I’m drunk, eating a cheese and jalapeno sandwich, drinking a cup of tea and I’ve got to get up and drive to Birmingham in five and a half hours time.

All in all, fuck.

Oh, and I won two tickets to next weeks show, but it’s a long story and my fingers aren’t working any more.

Normal service will be resumed eventually. Now for a message from our sponsor.

Or something

Apres moi, rien.

Your recipe, from the recipe exchange (better late than never!!).

Apple Cake
1lb Apples, peeled, cored and chopped
8oz Plain Flour
6oz Dark Soft Brown Sugar
4oz Butter
2 Eggs, beaten
3-4 tbsp Milk
1 tbsp Light Demerara Sugar
1 tsp Ground Mixed Spice
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
2 tsp Baking Powder

Pre-heat oven to 170°C.
Grease a 7 inch round cake tin, line with buttered greaseproof paper.
Cream the butter and sugar, until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs, a little at a time, beating constantly.
Sieve the flour, spice and baking powder.
Add to the mixture, mixing thoroughly.
Fold in the apples and enough milk to produce a soft dropping consistency.
Pour into the prepared cake tin.
Bake for 1½ hours until well risen and firm to the touch.
Turn out on to a wire rack to cool.
Sprinkle with demerara sugar.

Delicious!
