Well, that's the first week over and done with.
It's been a bit of a culture shock being back in the Leeds office, bumping in to people who I used to work with in the old Sheffield office and haven't seen for years. The daily commute is manageable - I've been getting to my desk for about twenty to nine most days, and if I get away on time I'm home for not long after half past five. I can live with that, I think.
The work has been fine - I've started getting to grips with the application and some of the underlying code, an object orientated language based on java but not as strongly typed. The source control process is a bit long winded - we're using Subversion, which means branching code, and then committing changes back into the current releases and trunk. I'm using a borrowed PC which chugs a bit with the setup - apparently a dual core processor with the source code on a separate disk is the way to go, so that the TortoiseSVN can run without slowing the rest of the system down.
The only drawback to the week is the rather bothersome cough and cold that I don't seem to be able to shake off. Still, I have a remedy thanks to the bottle of Black Beer that Jan brought back from Asda tonight - one measure of black beer mixed with two measures of Captain Morgan rum makes a suitably medicinal winter warmer.
If you enjoyed the literal video version of Take On Me by Aha that did the rounds recently, then the literal version of Head Over Heels is a must see ... :-)
