Well, in case you were wondering about the Tweet from last week, the various powers that be want to make my job function office based in Birmingham rather than the current floating/home based role that it is. Fortunately, it's a big company so it looks as if it's time to look for another role that doesn't require so much trekking down the M1/M42 every week. On the one hand it's all a bit scary, change not being my most favouritist thing in the world. On the other hand I have been doing this particular job for a long time now and there is a danger of getting stuck in a rut so I need to look on this as a opportunity to push myself a bit and try something a bit more out of my comfort zone.
I need to dust off the old cv, which will be a good exercise as I haven't done it for several years now, and maybe think about applying for jobs elsewhere if nothing suitable comes up internally in the near future. I need to see the HR person again to check a few things and see what positions are available, so we'll see how that goes. Of course, if anybody knows of any reasonably well paid IT jobs going in the Sheffield area then a heads up would be appreciated!
In other news, a bit of retail therapy was called for today, so it was off to Meadowhall to buy Spore for Jamie and to treat myself to one of the shiny new iPod nanos. I can exclusively report that it is an excellent little gadget, and the quality of the screen display for videos and pictures is superb. I've been happily syncing lots of podcasts to it, and I can recommend this weeks Skepticality which features a panel discussion from Dragoncon with the Amazing Randi talking about the importance of magic in sceptical thinking. Also good is The Bugle, particularly the recent special episodes covering the Republican and Democrat conventions.

I did wonder about that Tweet. I hope whatever change occurs will be for the best. I can certainly sympathize.
I hope you get sorted. You know the road I've been down and for all the effort that was expended on CV's and agencies it was word of mouth and a friend that put me back on the path. Good luck.
