After a furious argument with some evangelists about the god of the Old Testament I noticed a small white spot on my left arm. I scratched at it idly and then, on a whim, squeezed it. A white substance extruded from the spot, like toothpaste from a tube, and started to curl and solidify and move of its own volition. It flattened onto my forearm and I watched with morbid fascination as it grew a series of legs and began to move and scuttle with alarming speed.
The creature dropped to the floor, growing in size and mutating all the while. It first developed a white, chitinous shell and then a segmented tail and stinger and claws like some albino scorpion. I realised that I had to catch it before it could change again, and grasped it tightly as it writhed in my hand. It stung me, causing a brief burst of excruciating pain, and scratched with its many sharp claws. I flung it to the floor, picked up a hand axe and flattened it with the back of the blade, hearing a loud crack as its shell fractured. I looked at the foul mix of gore and feebly waving limbs, and then it was still.
No wonder I've not been sleeping very well, with dreams like that. I'll not even get started with the one about Doris the cat getting on the bird table by disguising herself as as owl.
I've spent most of the day feeling a bit bleugh and run down, but I knuckled down and brought my cv up to date which made me feel a bit better. If anyone knows of any IT jobs in the Sheffield area that might be suitable, drop me a line and I'll send you a copy. I'm pretty sure that I'll move to another job within my company, but I think that keeping my options open is probably a good thing.
In other news, I've had a play with Handbrake for copying dvds to my iPod with very good results. The ripping process takes a while to run, but the files it produces are perfect for the screen on the nano.
