Weekend catchup

I try to take life one day at a time - sometimes several days gang up and attack me at once

I felt a bit like that yesterday morning. A combination of some sort of bug and utter weariness led to me having to miss the fencing workshop for the first time in years. Drugs and alcohol have dealt with the bug, and I slept for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon, and after having fed the cats and walked the dog I went back to bed and slept for another extra hour and a half, and I think I'm just about caught up now.

My new Prius was delivered last week, and after driving it for a few days with a mix of motorway and town driving I can exclusively report that it is ACEBEST. It took a while for me to stop looking for the gearstick and clutch, but once I did the automatic gearbox and electric motor really do give a fantastically smooth ride. There are all sorts of displays and graphs of the power distribution and fuel consumption, but the general advice seems to be to let the car get on with it and just drive. The electric mode is amazing - it's quite an experience to set off up the street driving in complete silence. It's like having your only personal stealth mode. I've got my first trip down to Brum on Tuesday, so it will be interesting to see how it does on a longer journey.

We finished the last level of Halo 3 on co-op this afternoon. Wow. The final section could quite possibly be the best bit of any video game I have ever played. The final cut scene and coda also provide a suitably moving and fitting coda to the series as a whole. We then had a look at the Theatre mode where we found we could replay the whole of the last level and watch the action from any perspective, and then played a bit of Forge mode where you can collaborate on building a multi-player map with any combination of bits and bobs that you choose. Fantastic stuff.

Just make sure to be extra careful of pedestrians and cyclists, because we can't hear you now!
