In case you hadn't noticed, there's a certain game due to be released this week. I played rather a lot of Halo 2 (and wrote about it in another place. Has it really been three years? Crikey. Tempus fugit, I suppose.
Anyhoo, I fired it up again on Sunday afternoon to refresh my memory. The first level really was as good as I remembered. The scene with Master Chief jumping through space with a perfectly huge bomb like Slim Pickens in battle armour is an all time classic gaming moment. I also played a bit of team slayer, and as I suspected I was somewhere in the middle of the rankings notching up a couple of kills in each game.
The dilemma I have is this - should I finish Bioshock before I crumble and go out to buy Halo 3? By my reckoning, I'm about half way through but I'm playing it cautiously - disabling the security cameras and hacking the turrets, and sneaking about photographing the various splicers and Big Daddy creatures to up my research skills. The story that is unfolding through the various taped diary entries is highly disturbing too.
I also hadn't realised that the Valve Orange Box is due out on Xbox 360 as well as on PC via Steam. Seeing as how I haven't played any of the Half Life 2 games, that strikes me as extraordinarily good value for money.
