Catch up

I think I'm still suffering from the exertions of last weekend.

Catching up on lack of sleep seems to take longer than ever these days - one of the inevitable side effects of aging, I suppose. I wrenched my elbow on Thursday night, but it seems to be more or less back to normal apart from the occasional twinge. Oh, and I managed to dislodge a chunk of the same tooth that I cracked almost exactly a year ago, which will require a trip to the dentist next week I suppose.

Last night was a bit strange, too. I woke up sweating in a tangle of duvet with a unearthly wind whistling through the house, closely followed by the sound of the bedroom door slamming shut. I heard a strange snuffling and scratching from outwith the portal, and I summoned my courage to investigate. What unearthly beast would greet my sleep encrusted eyes? A ghoul from the cellars of the dilettante artist Pickman, or perhaps the dreaded hound of Tindalos, from strange and squamous dimensions not meant for human eyes? As it turned out, there wasn't anything outside the door but Jan discovered that Barney had snuck upstairs and into Jamie's bedroom, no doubt spooked by the wind blowing with unearthly force as if from the high plateau of forbidden Leng, or something. Sorry, I seem to have turned into H.P. Lovecraft all of a sudden. Ahem.

We were all awake early for Jamie's birthday. Eleven years old, already. Crikey. His major present this year is a Fender electric guitar and amp, so we currently have Smoke on the Water and Sunshine of Your Love reverberating through the house and that's only on '3' never mind '11' ... it's a good job we've got a detached house.

We've all been out to see the Simpsons Movie this afternoon with a few of Jamie's friends from down the road. I found it a bit disappointing really - it's not much more than an averagely good episode stretched out to 90 minutes. Still, it did make me laugh out loud several times and it certainly entertained the kids in between choffing sweets and popcorn.

What else? I'm still reading Harry Potter (ok, I suppose), playing Hotel Dusk (hauntingly strange), listening to 'Evolution' by Stephen Baxter (mind boggling in scope) and being addicted to Desktop Tower Defense (best score 5667 on normal so far).
