Ubuntu on my Sharp PC-MM1110

Well, it's taken a bit of fiddling, but I've finally got Ubuntu working happily on my venerable Sharp PC-MM1110. It's a lovely little machine that's smaller and thinner than an A4 notepad, but it has a couple of drawbacks. It only has 256Mb of RAM, a 15Gb hard disk with an odd partitioning scheme and no internal cd rom to boot from. It was really starting to creak under the weight of Windows updates and service packs, so I had to bite the bullet.

Installing was a slightly involved business. I used the Wubi installer with the sizes set to the minimum to squeeze it onto the four GB D: partition. The wireless driver turned out to be already present, but I had to add the prism_pci and hostap_pci drivers to the blacklist file in /etc/modprobe.d before it would work reliably. The touchpad needed the qsynaptics application downloading so I could configure scrolling and turn off tapping, but otherwise it works the same as it does in windows now.

Now I've got it set up with Firefox and Thunderbird, and I've just been suitably impressed by my camera working straight away when I plugged it in. It's got to the point that I now resent having to run windows for any reason, although those are thankfully quite rare. I think the only I've needed to do recently is run the Audible audiobook manager to download a file, but once I'd copied it across I can manage the files on my Creative Zen V Plus quite happily in Ubuntu.

I cannot get to grips with Linux. Tried a few of them including Ubuntu and I really do not like it no matter hard I try.
