Holiday blog

I'm on my hols this week - the first time off since Christmas and much appreciated.

What wasn't appreciated was the knock on the door from an evangelical christian who wanted to tell me about biblical prophecies. I told him to go and look at the evidence of the world all around him before looking for supernatural explanations for the existence of life, and that if he was going to use the bible as a basis for his beliefs then he really need to understand that it was cobbled together by committee and that even the bits they put in weren't internally consistent. I wasn't quite so cruel as to ask why, if he was designed by a perfect creator, he should be suffering with a palsied hand and need thick glasses to correct his vision. I don't think I changed his mind, but I hope that I gave him some pause for thought.

Still, I am now going to go and have a cup of coffee and a slice of toast and play a bit more Mavel Ultimate Alliance. I had initially been a little disappointed by the graphics. The first level on the SHIELD helicarrier was very dark and lacking in detail, but subsequent levels have improved vastly. The gorgeously rendered underwater scenes in Atlantis, a exquisitely detailed Mandarin's palace and now Doctor Doom's castle to look forward to. The character animations are good too - I've assembled my own super team consisting of Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Thor and Elektra and it's very satisfying to glide around as a War Machine era Iron man unleashing tanked up plasma blasts against Doombots.
