Furry alarm clocks

I am now convinced that Biddy must have been bitten by a radioactive mouse or something similar. She may have lost the use of her eyes but in return she has gained the feline super power of knowing when it is *exactly* a quarter to six in the morning and therefore (obviously) time for breakfast. She's done this for the last three days without fail.

She scratches the carpet until one of us points her in the direction of her litter tray, and then she comes back upstairs and sits on the pillow purring loudly in my ear until I cave in and get up to give her and Frank some food. She then uses her super hearing to home in on the cat crunchies being poured into her bowl and tucks in with gusto.

She's also developed a little routine for establishing where she is. When she comes into a room she yowls a hello to see if anybody is there and then tracks round the perimeter like one of those Roomba robot vacuum cleaners. She's not missing going outside as far as I can tell, although I think she might be confident enough to venture out in the Summer as long as we are around to keep an eye on her.

I have no idea how animals understand changes like that, but you can hope, at least, that she's not burdened with the human reaction of "oh my god, I'm BLIND!" When our dog got sick and the symptoms represented permanent changes in her life, she didn't seem depressed by it, and was just as happy as ever to be petted and taken out for walks. Hey, maybe your kitty will develop her powers of echolocation and you can make a video for youtube.
