You can always tell if it’s a good album by how much you are looking forward to not just listening to it again, but also diving into all of the influences and associated artists involved. In this case I was immediately intrigued by the fuzzy, shimmery guitars on the opening track and then drawn in by the proto-shoegaze atmosphere, and the callbacks to 1960s psychedelia and 70s krautrock and minimalism.
The standouts for me were Revolution which immediately brought to mind the Stooges and MC5 with a relentless paean to better living through chemistry, and the ten minute track Suicide which is a tribute to the band of the same name and another direct influence on this album. The special edition includes some excellent live tracks including a cover of Che by Suicide as well.
Excellent stuff.
