This album is a great example of the time, with the highlight being a performance from Mark E Smith of the Fall alongside such luminaries as Yazz and Lisa Stansfield.

What’s That Noise by Coldcut
The 80s UK house scene was a time of extraordinary creativity and also something of a Wild West for sampling as bedroom musicians and producers gleefully grabbed whatever they liked from movie soundtracks, tv, and the entire history of recorded sound. At least Coldcut approached it with a sense of humour and did eventually get around to getting permission for their samples.
