There are many arguments about what exactly is the first punk album, but it’s clear that while Funhouse doesn’t qualify as punk (the songs are too long for starters), you can trace a line from this to the New York scene and just a few years later to the UK.
It’s a remarkable piece of work - raw, uncompromising, and bringing in elements of the West Coast garage sound with hard rock and a noticeable proto-motorik drum sound that anticipates Krautrock by at least a year. Iggy is on fine form with this (the coughing fit in the middle of TV Eye notwithstanding). Perfect for a freak out!
