After a pair of controversial/challenging albums recently, it was a nice change of pace to hear a bit of low-key shoe-gaze from pop duo Beach House. This is a good album for chilling out to in a non-threatening way - it’s not going to set the world on fire (we’re already doing a pretty good job of that judging by the weather), but it neither wants to nor needs to.
Lead singer Victoria Legrand has an appropriately dreamy voice, reminding me a little of Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins and the music is minimally laid back and relaxed. I’d be hard pressed to name a single song from this after one listen, but I’m going to give it another go while I’m working today which should tell you something.
