GREY Area by Little Simz

I’m slowly finding examples of rap and hip hop albums that I enjoy, and here’s another one. It helps that it’s from a British perspective and much more relatable than yet another millionaire gangsta rapper.

Little Simz grew up on a council estate in Islington during the 90s and 2000s, and her songs reflect her experiences ranging from playing Crash Bandicoot with her sisters to the dark side of gun culture that some other rappers choose to glorify.

The music is satisfyingly funky and experimental in places, and the rhymes and rhythms are easy to follow with lots of detail to enjoy. Definitely a hit with me!
