I was listening to the Radio 4 Choice Podcast this morning.
It was a fascinating half hour documentary about the effects of the financial crash on city workers. It reminded me of the stories about mining towns after the pit closures of the 80s with people coming to terms with job losses and changes of lifestyle and so on. There were stories of workers having to readjust to spending time at home, and of some men who carried on catching the train every morning and not telling their wives that they had lost their jobs. I started to feel genuinely sorry for them.
That is, until an interview with a city car dealer - apparently times are so hard that Lamborghini owners are now having to economise by driving Aston Martins and Porches instead.
Oh, the humanity!
