Ok, so I'm a few days late to the party, but what the hey. Love it or not, Halo 3 is a phenomenon with sales eclipsing Hollywood blockbusters - can it possibly live up to the hype? On the evidence of this afternoon's play, yes it probably can.
I played the first level on co-op with Jamie first. A fairly straight forward fire fight, ranging through a stretch of jungle and into a base, but with some wonderful stand out moments when we realised that we could rip the plasma turrets out of their emplacements and use them as mobile heavy weapons. Nifty. We eventually fought our way to the objective, set off the bomb and escaped with seconds to spare. Hoo boy!
After a short breather, I jumped onto live to try it out. I'm not normally a fan of straight death match games - they're a bit too chaotic for my tastes. The Halo equivalent is called slayer and to my utter astonishment I managed to notch up the required 25 kills and win my first match - how cool is that?
