From 'Yaaargh' to 'Ow' ...

Things were slightly different at the fencing workshop today.

No Rick for one thing, due to him being laid low by a painful back spasm. The rapier section at the start was short and sweet, although we picked up one very useful drill where we would take one attack or sequence of attacks repeated several times and respond with as many different parries and ripostes as we could think of. It's a good way to draw together different techniques that we've picked up in our studies.

After an early-ish lunch break we returned once more to the thoughts of Lieutenant William Pringle-Green and his cutlass treatise, paying attention for techniques for getting in close and getting past an opponent, preferably pommeling, stabbing or eviscerating them in the process. Absolutely superb fun, particularly when we put all the techniques into practice at the end of the day with some free play using single sticks.

Oh, and I really need to lay my hand on a decent substitute for a naval pistol which is Pringle-Green's preferred off hand weapon ...
