I feel thin... sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread -- Bilbo Baggins
The last week has been something of an ordeal, one thing after another, leaving me feeling stressed, washed out and hung up to dry. Looking after Biddy has been the major concern.
She's still completely bunged up and showing no signs of wanting to eat of her own volition. We've been feeding her with liquidised food and a syringe six or seven times a day just trying to get sufficient calories into her to maintain her weight, and it's an ordeal for all concerned. She will tolerate it for a while and then she starts struggling - understandably so, given that she is blind, having difficulty breathing and then having food squirted into her mouth. I've got a fine collection of scratches and bites to show for it now.
We've tried olbas oil and the vet has given her some decongestant to put in her food, so that might help. I don't resent it, and she seems to revert to being a happy purring puss once the feeding time is over, but it's very wearing. She still has some life in her and deserves a decent chance, but she's really on life 9A at the moment.
On top of that, i seem to have been driving a lot as well. The trip to Birmingham this week was disrupted by an accident involving a petrol tanker on the M42 causing a huge tailback whilst it was made safe. Yesterday, I played taxi driver, with two trips to the orthodontist for Alicia and finishing with picking her up from a school theatre visit in town at half past ten. Oh joy.
I crawled into bed around midnight last night, plagued with weird dreams, before being woken up at half past five by Biddy scratching the carpet and looking for her litter tray.
In other news, I noticed that Amazon had finally got some Wiis in stock, so I said buggrit, metaphorically speaking, and one-clicked my order into the ether. It arrived this week, and it's lovely. Surprisingly dinky, easy to set up and use, and fun to play with (when I get a look in). I've not had much time to play Zelda yet, but the thing that's impressed me most so far is the built in internet browser which I hooked up to a bit of software called Orb that allows streaming video, audio and pictures from a pc on the network straight to the tv. The one drawback is a big menu bar in the browser that you can't hide at the moment, but I'm hopeful that is going to be fixed in the next release of the software.
Right, time to walk the dog ...
