Biddy Update

Last night was awful.

Biddy hadn't eaten or drunk anything for two days and she was as weak as a rag doll. We sat up with her most of the night, watching the clock until we could ring the vet. Many tears were shed.

I was dreading taking her, fearing that she wouldn't be coming back, but I knew it had to be done. We all sat on the sofa watching some daft kids programme on the tv joined by Frank and Barney as well, while we waited until it was time to go. We said our goodbyes and prepared for the worst.

The vet examined her and found she'd lost another 100 grams in weight on top of the half kilo that she'd lost in the last four weeks from her meagre three kilos. He gave her a vitamin injection and she surprised us all by spitting and clawing, showing she still has some fight left.

He gave us some high protein food so that we can feed her by syringe and she seems to be responding little by little each time we feed her, cleaning her face furiously after each feed to catch the bits that have dripped down her chin. She's had a wander around the house and has used her litter tray.

She's sat on my lap now, purring. There's life in the old girl yet. I'll let her go when it is her time to take the journey to the clearing at the end of the path, but it's not today.
