Tales of mystery and imagination

I nipped down to the garage at lunchtime to get some shopping, came home, unlocked the door, put the shopping away and then promptly lost my keys. I retraced my steps through the house several times, checking the work top in the kitchen, the study upstairs, all of the various loos and the bedroom but there was nary a sign of the damned things.

I was starting to come to the conclusion that I had left them in the door outside and some nefarious bounder had made off with them in order to come back later to burgle us. There was one step in the process that I had overlooked until Jan suggested it. When I’d finished putting the shopping away, I’d dropped the carrier bag into the kitchen bin … along with the keys which were now covered in a tomato and olive oil sauce mixture. Doh! What a twit …

After you'd looked in the bin did you look somewhere else? You know, to make sure that they weren't in "the last place you looked"!
