Shepherd's Warning

I woke early this morning with an odd sense of foreboding. I went into the bathroom, and sure enough there was barely a trickle of water in the taps. I took the dog out for his walk and the sky was an appropriately apocalyptic red. I got back and Jan had rung the Yorkshire Water help line and found out that there was a burst main somewhere up the road. Fortunately we had enough water in the kettle for a cup of tea and the pressure was restored a couple of hours later in time for us to have a shower and to do some washing.

The main task of the day was to help Shullie and Loops sort out their garden and make it dog friendly in preparation for the Akita that they are in the process of adopting. My contribution was to hold bits of shed in the right places whilst Rachel and Luisa hammered in nails, and then stand around occasionally fetching fence panels and buckets of water as required by the fence post crew. Everything came together in the best traditions of an Amish barn raising, and all of the fence posts were in place and the bike shed that will serve as an outside kennel looked pretty solid and weather proof by the time the sun went down. It was flipping cold though, and we were all grateful for the frequent hot drinks and bagels that we were supplied with throughout the afternoon.

Home again, and a quick walk in the woods for Barney, and then settle down for a Saturday night session on Animal Crossing (K.K. Condor was my tune tonight) and then a listen to an old Marillion album that Jan bought off iTunes for me with a glass of banana bread beer, followed by chili with all the fixings. Bliss.
