The lair of Ratvik the Mad proved to be behind a locked and rather hot door. We opened it cautiously and stepped in to see an overwhelmingly hot chamber with a robed skeleton in scorched robes sitting on a charred throne. We tried to reason with him to see what cause he had to be so cruel to Moira but in the end it came down to a fight where through a combination of luck and guile we were able to dislodge his crown and destroy him. We took the crown to Moira as proof and she released the souls that had been stuck in limbo and allowed us to pass through the gate to the realms of the dead.
As payment for releasing our dead companion, Death required us to wager our souls in a game of cards. After a shaky start and doubling the stake, the gamble paid off and the moon sword was put to its intended use to sever the bonds of death. We then turned and headed back through the portal to the lands of the living and the city.
We bedded down in the tavern for some much needed rest, but in the night a blackbird delivered a message promising wealth and power if we were to journey to the frozen north to seek out the witches of Asur. Well, if you put it like that … The next day, after discovering a plot to deliver Greek fire on a ship at the docks which suddenly made us the object of scrutiny from the Duke, we booked passage on the Morro (with many jests about leaving on the Morro on the morrow) with a captain who seemed to have a tenuous grip of reality at best.
Thus it was we found ourselves beset by a fierce storm with gigantic waves crashing on the deck …
